Jann Arden is “Not Your Little Girl.”
The Canadian icon is flipping the bird to pressures to conform on her brand-new single, where she proclaims she won’t do as she’s told.
“Not your little Girl was written for women everywhere – in hopes of further igniting the conversation of where we stand on a whole lotta issues,” said Arden in a press release. “It felt like an anthem – a call to unite and band together for once and for all. The video is raw and intimate and vulnerable. Alkan [Emin] captured the heart of what this song really is-we are a force to be reckoned with.”
In the accompanying black-and-white video, Arden fends off a swarming glam team, and embraces her quirks and unfiltered voice.
“Jann and I had talked and we felt it was like an anthem for what’s happening in the world right now with women,” said video director Emin. “Showing all aspects of women. Strength, intellect, vulnerability, anger, humour. As a man, and looking at how I directed the video and the powerful lyrics, it was nice to be a part of the solution and not cause.”

The music video launches on International Women’s Day (March 8), a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. The anthem of strength is the perfect message to send to girls across the world on a day that fights for gender equality.
The song will live on Arden’s upcoming album, These Are The Days, out March 16.
