A very Happy Birthday to Canada’s “Songbird” Anne Murray!
By the time she was seven years old, she was singing all the time. For over 40 years her unique voice and heartwarming style have made her a household name. She led the way for a generation of Canadian divas, who have also conquered the world – Celine Dion, Shania Twain, k.d. lang, Alanis Morissette and Sarah McLachlan who all followed in her footsteps
Since her first album ‘ What About Me’ was released in 1968 through to the mid 90’s, Anne’s recordings were seldom been off the charts. She has sold close to 50 million album, received four Grammys, a record 24 Juno’s, three American Music Awards, three Country Music Association Awards, and three Canadian Country Music Association Awards. She has been inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, the Juno Hall of Fame, and The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, The Canadian Broadcast Hall Of Fame and she is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame Walkway of Stars in Nashville, and has her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles and on Canada’s Walk of Fame in Toronto, and in 2011, Billboard ranked her 10th on their list of the 50 Biggest AC Artists ever!… not too bad for a Canadian from Springhill, Nova Scotia!
However, Anne Murray is more than just a Canadian icon. Her warm voice and well-loved songs have become woven into the fabric of our lives.
