Chris Stapleton: How He Broke Down The Walls Of Country Music

Chris Stapleton has amassed a huge amount of accolades in a short amount of time: from starting out as a go-to Nashville songwriter, to fronting new bands before finding success as a solo outfit, Stapleton’s hard work ethic and spine-tingling output has pushed him to the forefront of country music.

Stapleton co-wrote six country #1 singles performed by Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Luke Bryan, Darius Rucker, and more. He has over 150 writing credits including songs by Adele, Peter Frampton, and Sheryl Crow.

After a two-year stint with the SteelDrivers from 2008 to 2010, Stapleton moved into solo territory where he proved to really shine. His debut studio album, Traveller, debuted at #14, but a duet performance with Justin Timberlake at the CMA Awards propelled the album to increase 6,000% in sales, pushing it to the top of the charts. It has since sold over 2 million copies in the United States alone while obtaining Gold certification in Canada.

Stapleton secured two Grammy award wins for Best Country Album and Best Country Solo Performance for the title track.

In 2017, he followed up with two releases: From A Room: Volume One and Volume Two. On the February 10, 2018 charts, all three of Stapleton’s releases held the top-three spots on Top Country Albums chart. Stapleton is only the third artist to do so, behind Garth Brooks and Charlie Rich.

Stapleton earned three more Grammy awards for Best Country Album (Volume One), “Either Way” (Best Country Solo Performance) and “Broken Halos” (Best Country Song.)

His stunning blend of country, bluegrass and southern rock harkens back to the classic sounds of Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison, but feels fresh among his Nashville contemporaries.

There’s a reason why Justin Timberlake recruited Stapleton for the duet, as well as collaborating for his new album Man of the Woods. There’s a reason why Trace Adkins says “he’s been a huge fan of Chris Stapleton for years.” His raw delivery and soulful inflections hit eardrums like nothing in music right now. His ability to merge influences and strike a chord makes all three of his critically-acclaimed projects so timeless.
