35 Years Ago Today: Queen Rocks Saturday Night Live

Queen was on top of the world in 1982, and the group’s performance on Saturday Night Live only solidifies this.

Frontman Freddie Mercury had blown out his voice during a fight with his boyfriend, but puts forth an incredible performance of “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” and “Under Pressure.”

In 1986, Queen stopped touring because of Mercury’s health, making the Saturday Night Live clips the final United States performance for Freddie.

“Crazy Little Thing Called Love” was Queen’s first chart-topper in the United States, staying at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for four consecutive weeks. It peaked at #2 in the UK.

“Under Pressure” was written and recorded with David Bowie and peaked at #29 on the Billboard Hot 100. It hit #1 on the Canadian CHUM charts and #3 on the Canada Top Singles chart.
